Nine years ago, a bunch of excited, ‘young’ people entered a new phase of their lives. I am talking about a different year, a different era, 2007, and a batch of 100 medical students at Mysore Medical College; I was one them. Today after one us remembered and reminded us on our ‘Whats App’ group that it’s been so long; a whirlwind of memories were unleashed within.
First, all of us were astonished/bewildered/surprised that it’s been so long. Wait; are we really that old? No, no obviously not; we are still young heart, we concluded!
Second, I’m sure each of us, went down our very own special memory lane. The many firsts, the first day, the first dissection, the first trip, the first hostel room, the first clinics, the first love, the first exam flunked, the first fest, the first guy/girl and so on. Time loves to play games and my favorite game is the ‘time game’. We keep quizzing and completing sentences that start with ‘X’ years back; ‘X months ago; ‘X’ years from now; the past, the present and the future painting wonderful, colorful pictures.
I read a book a few months ago; “The time machine” by H.G wells; a long time overdue. The book itself was a little disturbing; probably because I expected something different; but the concept is what I am sure a lot of my batch mates (including myself) want right now! A machine that allows you to go back and forth in time!
I would go through it all over again, except the exams! I’m glad those are behind me.
Those 5.5 years shaped us all into what we are today. We all might be scattered across the country now, but there’s an invisible thread that binds us all together. That’s no wonder, this was the day we were reborn!
